Good morning, Mesa. Triple digits are back this weekend, so most of the draws worth leaving the house for are the indoor kind.

  • 🍽️ A new restaurant is headed to downtown Main Street. Jao Sua filed for a license at 17 West Main Street. Council votes Monday.
  • 🦕 The libraries go full dinosaur. DIY Dino, The Land Before Time, and a Phoenix Zoo visit all land at the Main branch.
  • 🧶 Dobson Ranch runs a full slate. Crochet, puzzles, slime, and a paint night Thursday through Monday.
  • 🎆 Mesa needs July 4 volunteers. The Celebration of Freedom at the Convention Center is recruiting now.
  • 🏫 The MPS governing board meets June 11. The district board gathers on North Stapley.

A new restaurant lines up for Main Street

A new sit-down restaurant called Jao Sua is lining up for a downtown Main Street address.

Key facts:

  • 📍 17 West Main Street, in the downtown core (District 4). No restaurant currently holds a license at the spot.
  • 🍽️ Lunch and dinner, under a new Series 12 restaurant license (the standard full-service permit).
  • 📝 Filed by Jao Sua Mesa LLC, with James Chayanonda Doyle listed as agent.
  • 🗳️ The license goes before city council Monday, June 8.

Main Street between Country Club Drive and Mesa Drive is the spine of Mesa's 1878 town center, and the stretch near the Arts Center and the light rail stops has been slowly filling with sit-down spots. A brand-new license at a previously unlicensed address means a new kitchen, not a change of hands.

Watch the June 8 council agenda for the vote. Details.
